IPL and the little boy in rural Maharashtra
When I read about the PIL filed to stop lakhs of liters of water that used to keep cricket's IPL matches in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, one image comes to mind. This is the image I saw on the TV news channel a little boy sitting next to his mother in a crowd of women waiting patiently with their vessels to collect water from a tanker in the drought-affected areas of rural Maharashtra. In the eyes of a young boy there was innocent faith that things will turn out fine. It is this faith that we need to protect. That is why I, like many others, we welcome the decision of the Supreme Court in Mumbai on the issue of IPL matches being transferred outside Maharashtra. However, it should not just be restricted water to maintain the IPL matches.
It would have been in the fitness of things if you match with those organizing IPL, especially in the state of Maharashtra, he had given assurances that none of the water, even if you do not it was used drinking to keep cricket combinations IPL, twice the size it will be purchased by the organizers from out of state and distributed free of charge in tankers across the drought-affected areas.
If cricketers of the West Indies could be the world celebrates T Victory 20 Championship by donating money to the organization established many years ago in Kolkata before Mother Teresa, surely the BCCI-richest Council cricketing world and the organizers of the IPL (including rich franchise too) can do their bit for people in drought-affected areas in the country.
We owe it to the little boy who believes that everything will be fine.
