Windies turn down Pakistan T20 tour



Recently crowned world champions West Indies Twenty20 have rejected a request for Pakistan to play matches in the South Asian country shaken militancy because of security fears, a senior official said on Monday.

Pakistan are due to host the West Indies in two tests, five one day and two Twenty20 internationals in September and October this year.

Almost all series at home in the country have played on neutral grounds in the UAE since a militant attack 2009 on the cricket team of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, but expected the leg T20 tour of the West Indies' it could be played in Lahore.

Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Shaharyar Khan said: "We wanted the Twenty20s to be played in Pakistan and made an effort but the Cricket Board West Indies have refused saying they fear for safety, so it will play the complete series on (the) United Arab Emirates ".

the refusal of the West Indies' came after a suicide bomber killed 73 people in a park in Lahore on Easter Sunday last month.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, the Taliban faction that carried out the attack, said Christians were the target of the attack.

Pakistan hosted Zimbabwe for two Twenty20s and three one-day internationals in Lahore last year hoping the trip would open the way for more international teams to visit - a hope that has not been done.
