Sri Lanka cricketer Kaushal Silva hospitalised
Sri Lanka's Test opener Kaushal Silva was taken to hospital on Sunday after being hit by a cricket ball on his head as fields in a domestic game.
Sri Lanka Cricket said Silva was beaten in Pallekele during a game. His scans were clear, but he was flown to the capital Colombo for further testing and observation in a hospital, added the cricket body.
Silva has played 24 Test matches for Sri Lanka and scored 1404 runs at an average of 31st
"Kaushal was collected in short leg, when he was hit," espncricinfo.com quoted coach Charith Senanayake, as saying.
After Senanayake, vice captain Dinesh Chandimal Sri Lanka "swept directly to the back of the head of Kaushal. He has to take evasive action, but still the ball hit him."
The website said Silva was wearing a helmet with extra padding, a design for player safety after the death of Australia batsman Phillip Hughes introduced after being hit in November 2014 by a bullet to the head.
Sunday's match was part of Sri Lanka begin preparations for their tour of England next month, with the first of three Tests at Headingley on 19 May.
